"Is TDSmaker alternative to Canva?"
"TDSmaker is similar to Canva."
We get this question from a lot of users. Canva is really a helpful and amazing tool for both professionals and individuals to create professional designs and documents. We use it to design TDSmaker’s social media posts, pitch decks and rarely posters as one of Canva's user.
By using Canva it is possible to easily design professional visual contents or documents. But their focus has never been to offer a well-designed documentation software or document management program for technical documents like datasheet or tech sheet. If you’d try to use Canva for generating 5 pages technical sheet, you’ll see what I mean about Canva’s focus. It’s still an awesome solution for everyone who has no professional design training to design visual contents, but not for detailed and well-structured documents with tables and graphs.
TDSmaker has a different solution which aims to solve the singular problem of professionals. It has always been pointed on offering people design and create product or service datasheets faster and easier, not designing visuals like social media post images or facebook cover or poster. Due to our focus on a particular problem and lack, TDSmaker is a unique web solution and different from Canva. TDSmaker was developed for saving time, reducing indirect costs and increasing efficiency for who creates technical product sheets. The crucial questions: am I able to use Canva for creating datasheets or can I use TDSmaker to design non-technical visual contents? The answers are easy but to make a good comparison between the two, we first need to get a good understanding of their features, core missions and focused problems. Let’s take a look!
Canva: Easy to use for both professionals and end-users (amateurs)
Canva is a graphic design tool which makes design simple for both professionals (bloggers, marketing or social media specialist etc) and amateurs alike millions of social media users. Canva provides many professional layouts (templates) with over a million photographs, graphics, and font styles for various categories like blogging & eBooks, marketing materials, social media, and headers. It is a design tool and options are quite advanced compared to TDSmaker. Actually, It has all the expected features, not any innovative or wow functions as a design tool, but its user-friendly interface makes it different than other design tools.
If you’re a blogger, social media specialist or a business owner, you’d probably spend hours to design or looking for purchasing well-designed visuals. Behind professionals, Canva is pretty much used by amateurs for personal social media accounts because of the ready-templates for the most used social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin. So, this case makes Canva different from TDSmaker about their target personas.
TDSmaker: Helps professionals to save their time
TDSmaker is a web-based solution which helps you to decrease spent time for technical product sheets (datasheets). This specific solution was developed for technical documents and solving the problems which waste hours and effort of technical writers, engineers, and marketing specialist. With that being said, TDSmaker is not a graphical tool like Canva which is used for designing different contents, it is just dedicated to datasheets and technical documents of products or services.
Having spent many hours working with both Canva and TDSmaker it is hard to get confused between them and this pushes me to use each of them for different purposes. There are key differences between the two platforms which allows me to use them in the niches that they fill. One of them is the permission and collaboration features. Both applications allow users to collaborate with their teammates but Canva doesn’t have permission management options on the visuals and documents. Unlike from Canva, TDSmaker offers to set permissions of users on template and datasheet level. For instance; as admin, you can restrict the permissions of users to edit templates leading to a uniform consistency on your design. Or, it is possible to limit the authorization of sales department to make changes on datasheets.
Canva is mostly for visual contents but TDSmaker is just for technical datasheets.
Canva: Hundreds of layouts on many categories
I absolutely love pre-made designs of Canva which give me inspiration and ideas for my social media posts and so it helps me to save my time. They are easily editable for your own work and PNG-JPEG-PDF file types enrich using scopes of Canva. There are hundreds of templates for categories like US Letter, Invitation or Poster and differently, from TDSmaker, the categories are classified according to content type or area of utilization. TDSmaker also has many similar templates but they are based on industries like electronics, food, chemicals etc in connection with the scope. So, even though they both have template library, library categories and provided templates are in completely different categories.
TDSmaker: free datasheet templates for different sectors
First and foremost, TDSmaker is used to specifying technical characteristics and briefly presenting product properties in a few pages. The template library of TDSmaker has well-designed free datasheet templates customized specifically tailored to certain sectors like electronic datasheet, food datasheet etc. The main differences of TDSmaker templates that each of the templates are designed with specific markets in mind - for instance, there is a template for food products, adhesives, digital cameras, and so forth.
Canva: Strong graphic design tool
All the basic graphic design features that you need to design visuals are covered on Canva with elements and editor tool. Of course, it is not a Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, but Canva is adequately fulfilling your needs to create basic designs for your works. Adjusting a saturation or color of a photo is easy if you’ve used a photo editing tool on your social media app or Photo app of your phone. Ease of use makes Canva more strong and helps it to grow easily. Icon, free photo and shape elements provide rich library and wide options to users, this enables to save time. Another feature I like is the collection of text holders which are customizable with your own fonts and style. The free version of Canva also includes many font types which make your design attractive and funny. Last note; I don’t prefer to use Canva for printed materials due to quality.
TDSmaker : Update hundreds of datasheets in seconds
One of the most liked benefits of TDSmaker is the automatic update of design and constant elements on all datasheets with one click. Yes, it is possible and awesome feature which save days of users who need to change datasheet design or generic text like disclaim. The design is not the focus of TDSmaker, it is just used for the first step like a preparing a master layout. The main function is creating and managing datasheets with team collaboration. TDSmaker also allows companies to integrate their website with TDSmaker which make publishing and updating all datasheets on their website automatically. This is a very attractive service for users who sell the products on their website.
Neither of the tools is necessarily superior to the other as they both specialize in certain niches. TDSmaker is a datasheet generation tool that is able to cut back on businesses costs considerably by giving them a simple to create datasheets, spec sheets, tech sheets specifically tailored to the products and services. Canva relies on photo and graph manipulation, making it ideal for those that wish to relay information rather than rely on others to look it up. While there is some overlap on what both wish to accomplish, there are enough differences that the solution can actually be used in conjunction with one another to maximize a business's efficiency, as both can save time and money to users.
